Senior Controls Engineer

 

SUMMARY:   Develop or redesign electrical controls for new or existing company products.  Individuals in this position work from order requirements or other specifications and arrive at final control circuitry and program logic utilizing software and engineering calculations as required.  Controls Engineers are capable of working independently and may be assigned responsibility for a customer order as a Lead Engineer.    

 

KEY DUTIES:

  • Design control architecture and logic for high speed package/parcel sortation systems
  • Design electrical controls/control systems for company products.
  • Write PLC, HMI, PC and other control programs using various software
  • Create Sequence of Operations, Control Schematics and Control Panel layout drawings using CAD software for use in customer proposals and manufacturing.
  • Create bills of material and routings for use in cost estimates and manufacturing
  • Create owner's manuals, test procedures, and other engineering deliverables as required
  • Perform electrical computations for sizing electrical components
  • Provide technical support to shop personnel during manufacturing
  • Provide field support of Company products as required
  • Follow the mentorship and guidance of Sr. Engineers and subject matter experts as needed in support of the above duties
  • This position has an estimated travel requirement of 15% or less. Sometimes, travel can come on short notice and may include weekends or holidays. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 0-5 years experience
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70, National Electric Code, and NFPA 79, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical control circuits
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical and 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • General working knowledge of PLC, HMI, and PC based control hardware and software

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Good verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings / electrical schematics. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Proficient in algebra and geometry as is required to solve engineering problems.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. Employee spends some time on shop floor. The majority of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer and use of the phone.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment is a pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. Personal workstation maybe located on 2nd floor. The employee works in the office but does have frequent interaction with personnel on the shop floor.  The employee may also be required to travel occasionally to work in customers' plants reviewing new applications or on the installation, start-up and commissioning of company products.  In plants, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas.
