SIGMADESIGN has collaborated with a heavy industrial fabrication and machine shop seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join their facility in Portland, OR. This company is one of the largest machine shops on the west coast. They have a long history of offering a wide range of equipment and services. Their products are used in a variety of industries, including mining, steel mills, power generation, cement, pulp, and paper.

Monday – Thursday, 6:30 am – 4:30 pm
$33.00 -$43.00 an hour
Primary Function:
This Manual Machinist is responsible for the setup and operation of manual machining equipment to fabricate high-precision components according to customer specifications. Working in a dynamic job shop environment, you will handle a diverse range of projects, contributing to the fabrication of very large and complex parts with weights up to 100,000 pounds. Our client provides comprehensive crane safety training and guidance on handling large components safely.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
Set up and operate manual machining equipment, such as engine lathes, horizontal and vertical mills, boring mills, and other tools, to produce precise components.
Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings to execute precise machining operations.
Utilize industry-standard measuring and inspection tools such as micrometers and calipers to ensure accuracy.
Deburr and inspect completed components to confirm quality and adherence to specifications before shipment to customers.
Efficiently run multiple projects on multiple machines simultaneously, maintaining high productivity and attention to detail.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)
High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or certification in CNC machining or a related field is a plus.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a manual machinist, ideally in a job shop or custom fabrication setting.
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Proficiency in the use of measuring and inspection tools to verify component accuracy.
Experience handling large components is preferred, though crane safety training will be provided.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Background check or drug test required upon acceptance of an offer.
Work Environment:
Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
