Portland General Electric Senior Principal Communications Consultant in Portland, Oregon

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning Proactively develops overall enterprise wide executive communication strategy. Participates in or helps lead development of corporate strategy. Oversees alignment of executive or outreach (including Chief Executive Officer outreach) and messaging consistent with strategy.

Content Writes, edits or oversees the writing and editing of key executive content (e.g., speeches, memos). Oversees content review process. Ensures consistent executive narrative through all messaging channels across departments. Collaborates with and leads others in multiple departments to provide consistent executive narrative aligned to overall strategy.

Media Relations May oversee high profile media relations activities such as officer speeches, presentations, scripts, talking points or collateral. May serve as a communications coach to key executives, including Chief Executive Officer.

Consultation Serves as a companywide communication expert linking narratives and overseeing a consistent proactive approach. Advises executive, including Chief Executive Officer, on outreach opportunities to ensure consistent alignment with strategic objectives. Proactively anticipates overall enterprise communication needs and provides strategic communication solutions.

Vendor Management May select and engage vendors as needed. Establishes quality metrics. Monitors work product quality of freelancers, agencies and other outside resources. Ensures alignment to overall brand concept.

Other Duties Oversees the development of department metrics. Designs, monitors and tracks metrics and reports back to clients. Provides guidance and direction to other team members. May lead cross-functional projects. May serve as a mentor to other team members and assign and direct work. Oversees high level or sensitive projects.

Education/Experience/Certifications

Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, writing or other related field or equivalent experience. master’s in public administration, business administration or communications field preferred.

Experience Typically 12 or more years of experience in corporate communications, including internal and external communications. Familiarity or practical working experience and knowledge in utilities or comparable highly-regulated enterprises or organizations.

Compensation Range:

$116,410.00 - $216,190.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
