THOR Solutions is seeking a mid-to-senior-level Engineering Technician with experience supporting electronic and telecommunications systems to support the United States Coast Guard C5ISC in Portsmouth, VA.  The technician will support the Sensors and Electronics Branch by performing engineering, design, maintenance, and installation of USCG telecommunications and electronic systems. 

Typical Responsibilities:

• Perform engineering, design, maintenance, and installation of telecommunications systems and electronic systems, including MF, HF, VHF, UHF and SATCOM Communication Systems (including high and low power); US/NATO Secure Voice Systems; Radar Systems; Navigation Systems, SINS and  DGPS Radio Beacon Transmitters, telephone systems, IP-PBX Key Systems; and, RADHAZ/EMI control measures. 

• Develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data.

• Develop or review engineering drawings to provide red-line corrections for “as built” configurations.

• Apply conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings, and parts lists.

• Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data, measures and records problems of significant complexity; and analyzes data and prepares test reports. 

Location: Full time onsite in Portsmouth, VA. Some limited "local remote" flexibility may be permitted.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.

Security Clearance Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance. 

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

• Associate degree in engineering technology or completion of USCG or DOD Technical “A” School. 

• At least six (6) years of recent, relevant experience in maintenance and installation of DOD or USCG Command, Control, and Communication Systems.

• Comprehensive knowledge of DOD and/or USCG specifications and standards. 

• Proficient with common productivity software.

• Strong communications skills.
