Research Foundation of SUNY/Northeast Migrant Education Program Program Academic Counselor in Potsdam, New York
The Research Foundation of SUNY, a private, not for profit educational corporation, invites applications for a PROGRAM ACADEMIC COUNSELOR with the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at SUNY Potsdam. CSTEP is a NYS Education Department grant program designed to increase the number of under-represented minority and/or income eligible students pursuing careers in the sciences, technology, engineering mathematics (STEM), health fields, or the NYS licensed professions.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but may not be limited to): Provide educational and career guidance Assist with student STEM programming and student support services Assist with student recruitment and retention activities Perform program evaluations and assessment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field and one or more years of teaching or counseling experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work creatively both independently and within a team Experience working with minority and income eligible college students in a counseling or advising capacity A valid drivers license and availability to work occasional evenings/weekends is required PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in a STEM field, education, counseling, or a related field Experience in CSTEP-related fields or NYS licensed professions Knowledge of personal, career and academic counseling techniques, student development, and financial aid counseling Familiarity with graduate school preparation and application processes Computer skills to include BANNER and Starfish Knowledge of population served is a plus
