JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Payment Posting Specialist DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Billing STATUS: Full time REPORTS TO: Director of Revenue Cycle Management POSITION SUMMARY: The Payment Posting Specialist is responsible for payment posting and ensures any monies received are properly identified and applied in the system. This position also includes posting denials and unapplied credits. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure all paper and ERA (electronic) remittance advices are received, posted and balanced ensuring allowances, adjustments and write offs are posted correctly.

  • Perform payment reconciliations with daily reports.

  • Research and resolve unidentified cash and misdirected payments.

  • Process refunds for supervisory approval. (Patient and Insurance)

  • Post unapplied co-payment and deductibles collected by patients, after insurance payments are posted.

  • Respond to payment questions from patients/billing/collections staff in a prompt manner.

  • Cover the other payment posting as needed as well as the bill pay line as necessary.

  • Other Duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma and minimum two or more years of related education and/or experience in Medical Billing/Collections required.

  • Minimum two or more years of current Practice Management System experience preferred.

  • Minimum two or more years of experience in Payment Posting both manually and from electronic files required.

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to interpret carrier contracts and knowledge of CPT4/ICD9/HCPCS codes.

  • High level of understanding physician billing.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work within deadlines and in a fast paced, high-volume environment.

  • Multi-tasking and attention to detail is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience in reading insurance EOBs.

  • Ability to work in a fast -paced environment and meet daily production targets.

  • In depth knowledge of Government and Non-Government payer sources.
