Description

RN Coordinator Transfusion & Oncology position in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Full time Monday - Friday 40 hours per week 8:30am-5:00pm.

Summary:

Responsible for the coordination of the daily clinical activities of the treatment room (chemotherapy infusion suite). Acts a a liaison between staff, physicians and administration to improve and maintain the quality and safe patient care. Ensure the oncology/hematology patients medical and psychosocial needs are met. Responsible for providing and reinforcing RN training based on national standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinator Criteria A: Supervised, plans, organizes and motivates the activities of the staff to ensure effective and efficient delivery of quality and safe health care. Coordinator Criteria B: Provides coordination and direct supervision over assigned staff to include hiring, conducting performance reviews, oversees staff educational development and provides counsel and discipline Coordinator Criteria C: Organizes and prioritizes clinical responsibilities of the infusion suite. Coordinator Criteria D: Ensures delivery of care related it infusion systems including programming, troubleshooting, maintenance per manufacture and set guidelines to ensure safe delivery of care to patients requiring continuous chemotherapy infusion E. Participates and assists in creating and maintaining chemotherapy order entry programs, protocols accurately. F. Orders and maintains chemotherapy drug inventory along with the Dept. of Pharmacy G. Assists in ensuring the environment of care and unit organization is conductive to promoting safe, effective and appropriate practice for patients and employees. H. Maintains a positive working environment through personal example and fostering teamwork I. promotes performance improvement philosophy and practices. Gathers performance improvement data to identify, monitor and evaluate processes. Facilitates change initiatives that are outcomes of the performance process. J. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of billing and coding regulations including CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10, HCPS and their party billing to ensure compliance as well as maintain fiscal viability for the organization. Performs auditing of prospective day to day charges. K. Performs other duties as assigned. 2. Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria A: Develops and adheres to established Nursing Standards of Practice to include: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria B: Practices according to unit-based protocols, best practices and national standards Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria C: Administers medication/IV therapy according to Hospital policy and procedure and consults appropriate resources for information, as needed Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria D: Follows chemotherapy administration according to Norwalk Hospital policy/procedure and consults appropriate resources for information, as needed E. Administers blood products according to Hospital policy and procedure and consults appropriate resources for information as needed F. Oversees RN functions in reviewing labs, incoming messages and responds accordingly and involves necessary personnel to resolve issues. 4. Patient and Family Education Criteria A: Assesses learning needs of patient and family or significant others Patient and Family Education Criteria B: Plans and provides appropriate instruction Patient and Family Education Criteria C: Assesses and documents effectiveness of teaching 5. Performs other duties as assigned. 6. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

  • Required: NY RN license required. Associates degree or diploma in Nursing with at least 5 year oncology experience and OCN required. BSN strongly preferred. Fluent knowledge and adherence, reinforcement of ONS standards required. High Reliability Training (HRO) required within 6 months of employment Minimum Experience: five years Desired: NY State License, Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification, Excellent IV skills and proficient in central lines. Knowledge with ICD-9/ICD-10, knowledge with billing procedures and coding, monitoring of monthly budgets and other duties as assigned. Participates in local hospital or network related committees as assigned. Must posses excellent communication and customer service skills and be able to work in a close team setting.
