Job Summary:

Our client, a well-established construction company, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join their team on a contract-to-hire basis. In this role, you will support the accounting department with a variety of tasks related to job costing, accounts payable/receivable, and general bookkeeping for construction projects. This position offers a great opportunity to grow within the industry and transition to a permanent role based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process and verify vendor invoices, including matching them with purchase orders and receiving documents for construction projects.

  • Track and reconcile job costs, ensuring that all materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses are accurately recorded.

  • Manage accounts receivable by preparing and sending invoices to clients, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.

Job Costing & Billing:

  • Assist with job costing by tracking expenses and allocating costs to the appropriate projects.

  • Maintain and update project cost reports to ensure timely and accurate billing for clients and subcontractors.

  • Prepare and submit progress billings, change orders, and final invoices for construction projects.

Data Entry & Recordkeeping:

  • Enter financial data into accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Procore, or similar systems) for accurate reporting.

  • Maintain organized records for all project-related financial documents, including contracts, invoices, and payments.

  • Reconcile construction project accounts, ensuring consistency between accounting records and project budgets.

Payroll Support:

  • Assist with the payroll process by tracking hours worked for construction crews, subcontractors, and other employees.

  • Ensure accurate tracking of labor costs and integration with project job costing reports.

Vendor & Subcontractor Communication:

  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve billing discrepancies and respond to payment inquiries.

  • Assist with processing payments to vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Assist in preparing reports for financial audits and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure all accounting tasks follow company policies and industry regulations, including those specific to the construction industry (e.g., lien waivers, retainage, etc.).

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or clerical support, preferably in the construction industry.

  • Basic understanding of job costing and construction project accounting practices.

  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Procore, Viewpoint) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Good organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills for vendor and client interactions.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
