We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to support our millions of Skype users every day, providing reliable, scalable and secure communication across the globe. Our team is also working on AI integrations into Skype, such as Copilot, a conversational agent powered by GPT-4 that can chat with users on various topics, and news filtering, a feature that uses AI to personalize and curate relevant news articles for users based on their interests and preferences.
We provide services that manage our users' identities across our products, help our users stay connected by finding and storing contacts, route billions of events per day to our clients, and manage key transport connections between our clients and services. We build services in Azure using globally replicated databases and a variety of computer platforms. We care about milliseconds of latency and take high availability seriously.

Responsibilities
A strong sense of ownership and level of autonomy.
Design and deliver features end to end in a complex high scale environment that are ‘serviceable’,low maintenance and with provable quality.
Collaborate with other engineers, program managers, and designers across the organization and beyond to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Drive innovation and quality in our engineering processes and practices, and foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and learning. Mentor other engineers and help them achieve more and grow.
Stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the identity and security domains and apply them to our products and services.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BS/MS Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Proven experience in designing, developing, and operating backend services.
Strong principal/lead engineer level experience with software development, agile development methodologiesand DevOps practices.
Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving skills, and ability to drive changes across multiple teams.
Passion for learning new technologies and domains, and for delivering high-quality software that makes a difference.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and\or application frameworks, Cloud and services (Azure cloud experience highly desirable), as well as exposure to Agile and iterative development processes.
Ability to design and build highly scalable architecture and services.
