Statement of the Job:

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking an Executive Director of University Advancement.

The Executive Director of University Advancement is instrumental in developing external relationships on behalf of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with foundations, agencies, alumni, and friends to secure funding through grants as well as through annual, major, and planned giving. This development professional will work with all campus constituencies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and other financial support for the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship through personal visits, telephone calls, written proposals, and other communications for University priority projects.

  • Work with the President and other University staff, especially University leadership, to ensure full integration and coordination with all campus development activities.

  • Work directly with the President and CBO in setting and achieving institutional annual goals.

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships, especially with external constituencies, that advance the influence and reputation of the university.

  • Build productive partnerships with internal and external constituencies.

  • As a member of the leadership team, commit to organizational improvement by identifying opportunities to improve, and recommending possible alternatives for a situation.

  • Coordinate University of Maine at Presque Isle fundraising priority projects and plan cultivation events as assigned, and perform other reasonably related duties as needed.

  • Serve as the university’s liaison and ex-officio member to the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Foundation Board.

    Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the salary range is $70,000-$85,000 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers wellness programs.

    Qualifications:

    The successful candidate should have:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively \with academic leadership , faculty and staff with members of the campus community , agency and foundation staff, prospects and donors.

  • Excellent organizational skills and successful experience managing events and other complex activities in support of development initiatives.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to make effective presentations to small and large groups.

  • Successful fundraising or grant solicitation experience in an academic or non-profit or related environment.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects and others.

  • Experience with research and data analysis, preparation of effective and accurate reports, and other documents to support development activities.

  • Demonstrated experience and or desire to work within a matrix organizational environment.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Three years of experience in fundraising and solicitation of external grants or equivalent experiences

  • Interest in regular travel, requiring a driver's license

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Fundraising experience in a publicly funded entity

  • Experience with Ellucian Advance or similar fundraising software
