Brown University Academic Program Coordinator in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

The Academic Program Coordinator provides comprehensive administrative support for the Department of Education’s academic and operational activities. The incumbent works with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) to support the Department’s undergraduate concentration and oversees all student employment for the Department. This position participates in the planning and coordination of departmental events and provides support for daily operations.

The Academic Program Coordinator works closely with the Academic Program Manager (APM) and helps to support the two Master’s programs.

The Academic Program Coordinator has a comprehensive understanding of the activities, policies, and processes of the Department.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Experience in academic program management at university level or similar administrative work in higher education, preferred.

  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills.

  • Must possess initiative and flexibility to work successfully in a fast-paced academic environment.

  • Ability to sustain a high degree of productivity and balance multiple tasks/deadlines.

  • Ability to develop collaborative working partnerships with faculty administrators and to work collegially with students and staff colleagues.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to respond positively to feedback.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

  • Interest in working with a diverse population of faculty, staff and graduate/undergraduate students and in actively supporting the department’s Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.

  • Sound judgment, discretion and confidentiality are necessary in handling sensitive matters.

  • Proficiency required in several software systems: Microsoft Office Programs (Word and Excel), FileMaker Pro, Google Apps and Zoom web conferencing. Skills/experience with the following systems a plus: Canva, Cognos Analytics, and MailChimp.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
