Pesticide Specialist
Essential Functions
The Pesticide Specialist applies pesticide and fertilizers as needed on campus; mows turf areas; treats plants for nutrient needs; tracks maintenance and application on computer; trains, motivates and supervises student employees; and manages application, handling, inventory, storage, rate recommendation, area needs/analysis and program implementation.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
Some experience in landscape pest control and management with BYU Grounds
*Preferred: * B.S. in a related field and 3+ full-time equivalent years experience in landscape pest control and management.
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
¿ Licensed in Utah to apply pesticides preferred.
¿ UDOT medical card to operate trucks or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
¿ Willing to work occasional nights and other off-hour shifts.
¿ Chemical handling and use skills.
¿ Chemical applicators license or ability to obtain after hire.
¿ Basic computer and math skills.
¿ Ability to operate sensitive equipment (computer controlled spray equipment).
¿ Basic knowledge of plants preferred.
¿ Forklift and loader certification preferred.
Employee Class: 3/4 Time (28 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
Physical Exam Required: Y
Physical Exam Details: Pesticide exposure; 3 hours; Daily; Hearing and eye protection, gloves, as needed. Unfavorable weather conditions; Yearly ave. 8 hours; Weekly; All/any needed. Operate truck, tractor, z-spray and other equipment; 4 hours; Daily; All/Any needed. Snow removal; 8 hours; Daily during snow season; Hat, gloves, layered clothing, boots, hearing and eye protection as needed.

Pay Level: 46
Approximate Starting Salary: $17.86 to $23.19 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
