Provo City is looking for a full-time Systems Electrical Engineer to provide professional engineering work responsible to coordinate, plan, design, estimate, and prepare specifications for building electrical distribution/transmission systems in Provo City’s Energy department. What is the compensation?

(G35, G36, G39) $37.06 - $62.09 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties?

  • Perform system electrical engineering functions of varying complexity, including system analysis, planning, budgeting, engineering design, construction management, start-up, and troubleshooting.

  • Participate in strategic planning for the department and suggest projects to improve and maintain system integrity, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

  • Prepare specifications for the design of electrical system projects, and the associated equipment and construction services, including for assigned department capital improvement projects (CIP).

  • Perform field testing of operations and customer support for power quality and environmental issues.

  • Maintain full project cost accountability and reports project status on a regular basis.

  • Perform and evaluate electrical system analyses and studies (both computer-based and manual) including load flow, short circuit, and load forecasting.

  • Review and maintain electrical system model and coordinate regular upgrading of city-wide information base.

  • Assist other staff members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of job-related education/experience [substituting each 1 year of post-secondary education/training for 6 months of experience] as meeting minimum qualifications.

At all levels

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

  • A valid, lawful Driver License is required.

  • Must obtain Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate within 1 year of hire.

  • Three years of experience at Systems Electrical Engineer I level.

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate.

  • Four years of experience at Systems Electrical Engineer II level.

  • State Professional Engineer license is required (State of Utah within one year).

    What is the selection process?

    Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on July 15, 2024 . Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to be eligible for consideration. If selected for hire , applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check prior to appointment. Non-disclosure will result in disciplinary action. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
