Summary of Duties:
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is seeking a Nutrition Education Assistant to teach about nutrition for low-income audiences in various community locations. With training and supervision, this position helps tailor curriculum for adults and youth with limited resources, empowering them to make long-lasting healthy changes. This position is located within WSU Extension Pierce County, at Pierce County Human Services.
Successful educators:
• Are confident speaking in front of groups and engaging participants in class activities,
• Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively recruit and retain participants and collaborate with community agencies,
• Have excellent time management and are self-driven, to successfully work independently with minimal supervision.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Planning and Preparation: plan recruitment events, prepare for events and classes (including grocery shopping and food prep)
• Teaching: communicate and interact appropriately with culturally diverse audiences, think critically and be adaptable to potential challenges that may arise
• Data & Reporting: detail-oriented data collection and entry, submit accurate and timely administrative reports
• Recruiting and Networking: identify, form, and maintain relationships with community agencies, encourage enrollment through health/resource fairs, group presentations, and printed materials
Required Qualifications:
• Six months of full-time experience/training in the appropriate discipline; OR equivalent education/experience.
• Ability to organize materials for classes.
• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/ and departmental driving standards.
• While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.30.020 and https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.29.090).
• Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
• Employment is contingent upon passing an annual background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience planning and delivering nutritional education to youth and adults.
• Ability to work well with other people and diverse program participants.
• Ability to keep written logs of activities and complete reports.
