Summary of Duties:
This postdoctoral position, in the Harper lab at Washington State University-Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (WSU-IAREC), is focused on the study of systemically infecting pathogens affecting perennials in the Pacific Northwest. The researcher will be expected to carry out a combination 'omics studies to describe the infection, colonization, and pathogenicity of the X-disease phytoplasma in stone fruit and their vectors. This research, conducted in collaboration with other WSU and USDA-ARS scientists, is aimed at identifying and characterizing potential interacting components that can be targeted for interference to reduce phytoplasma pathogenicity and transmission. Additional research duties will be assigned at the discretion of the PI to contribute to the advancement of other projects in the lab.
The incumbent is expected to interact with growers, stakeholders, and other industry groups, to attend and present their research at meetings and conferences, and to publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals. They are expected to actively collaborate with and assist other team members in a professional and courteous manner to advance research goals.
Required Qualifications:
• PhD in Plant Pathology, Horticulture, or related field at the time of hire
• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/#four_3 and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Research experience in perennial crops and knowledge of protein expression and RNAi techniques is preferred.
• Ability to conduct research independently, publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present research findings at scientific and industry meetings.
• Ability to work in the lab, greenhouse, and grower fields to conduct research and be flexible to take additional research projects as necessary.
• Ability to work well in a multi-cultural team setting and have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Annual Salary: $49,800.00 - $62,400.00
