National Park Service IT Specialist (Customer Support) in Quincy, Massachusetts

Summary The purpose of this position is to perform work involving the performance of routine and recurring assignments providing information technology (IT) customer support independently or in support of the work of a more senior specialist. Posting extended to June 18, 2024 Responsibilities This is a resource shared position for the following parks: ADAM: Adam's National Historical Park FRLA: Fredrick Law Olmsted National Historic Site JOFI: John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site LONG: Longfellow House - Washington's Headquarters National Historic Site SAMA: Salem Maritime National Historic Site SAIR: Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site The position will serve all 6 sites and will include regular travel between sites. Diagnoses and resolves problems in response to customer reported incidents; and reports, responds to, and resolves customer requests. Updates and maintains problem tracking/ticketing systems to track and identify customer needs, as well as to discuss requirements with the customer to resolve the customer need. Installs, configures, and tests software on customer workstations; and installs, configures, upgrades, and troubleshoots hardware and software components. Participates in the planning and delivery of a full range of customer support services to the organization. Participates in evaluating effectiveness of customer support services and impacts of proposed IT initiatives to services. Presents formal and informal training, guidance, and assistance to customers. Provides routine advice and guidance to customers requesting information on established policy or procedures, including those related to information security/information assurance. Ensures application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of customer support services. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level (FPL GS-11). Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal civilian employees applying for reinstatement who have had a break in service of less than one year, as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments. Time-in-grade does not apply to new excepted service appointments. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You must include transcripts. -AND- SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the Information Technology (IT) field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Specialized experience should include coordinating customer support activities sufficient to receive, respond to and ensure complete resolution of desktop computer issues; providing software, IT systems or equipment guidance and/or training to enhance customer knowledge, as well as to prevent recurring help desk inquiries Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP: CTAP/ICTAP - Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary; however, some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with customer site visits, travel, and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. The work may also involve carrying light item, such as papers, books, or small parts; lifting, with assistance, various pieces of IT equipment such as computers, components, and printers; or driving a motor vehicle. The work does not require special physical effort. Working Conditions: normal safety precautions occur; however, some work may occur in research facilities industrial and/or maintenance areas that may require the use of hardhats, hearing protection, or other protective equipment. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
