CITY OF RALEIGH Maintenance Technician - Asphalt in Raleigh, North Carolina

The Divisions within Transportation Maintenance are responsible for sidewalk maintenance, curb and gutter maintenance, asphalt maintenance, storm sewer maintenance, right of way mowing, downtown cleaning, resurfacing and pavement preservation, bridge maintenance and private development/utility inspections. The 218 person staff maintains over 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks, over 33,000 curb ramps, 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes and over 32,000 drainage inlets.

The Asphalt Maintenance Technician will be in charge of repairing of potholes, full depth patching of damaged asphalt and repair of utility cuts. In this role, you will operate a dump truck and other construction equipment such as a roller and air compressor. This position is part of the ground crew setting up traffic control, removing damaged asphalt, and cleaning/prepping the area for new asphalt. In addition, this position participates in and operates the equipment associated with the seasonal loose leaf collection and snow/ice removal programs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in asphalt/pavement maintenance
  • Repairs potholes, full depth patching of damaged asphalt, and utility cuts
  • Operates a dump truck and other construction equipment such as a roller and air compressor
  • Hauls personnel, equipment and materials to and from the job ? Part of the ground crew setting up traffic control, removing damaged asphalt and cleaning/prepping the area for new asphalt
  • Participates in and operates equipment for the seasonal loose leaf collection program and snow/ice removal programs
  • As required, work extended hours during emergencies and inclement weather
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience related to assignment

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
