The Program Director position oversees the SAY Klub After-School Program, a no fee referral program that is available to children between grades 1 through 5 who are enrolled in either the Evergreen or Vancouver school districts. RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Establish a safe, healthy, and welcoming setting that reflects a positive environment for learning and emotional well-being. Ensure that classrooms are well cared for and have adequate materials for teaching. Create a culture that embodies the mission of The Salvation Army. Plan and prepare program design - scheduling, planning, and implementing lessons. Lead children in daily activities including homework help, reading, recreation and STEAM. Assist in overseeing weekly Troops and music and creative arts programs. Plan and execute early release day activities. Communicate with partnering schools and/or parents to discuss enrollment of new students. Network with community partners and local schools to promote the SAY Klub After-School Program to ensure enrollment targets are met. Supervise SAY Klub After-School Program staff and volunteers. Recruit, process, train, and schedule new and existing volunteers. Maintain a database of volunteers as it pertains to the SAY Klub After-School Program. Prepare monthly themes and create special projects as they correspond to the season. Integrate assigned themes with the priorities of literacy, homework, character building and recreational activities. Track statistics and prepare monthly reports. Conduct monthly review of all curriculum and material inventory. Oversee operations of on-site summer youth day camps. Prepare snacks as needed. Conduct program related errands. Perform other duties as assigned. Ensure full compliance of OSHA, state and federal standards, regulations and requirements for safety and sanitation. Serve on the Safety Committee. SEASONAL DUTIES: As needed, seasonal duties may include working with families in the SAY Klub Program to sign them up for Christmas programs, driving for the kettle and Angel Tree Programs, and sorting food and toys. SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS: Microsoft Word and Excel experience required. Microsoft PowerPoint experience preferred. Electronic messaging experience required. Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training. QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS in Early Childhood Education is required. A minimum of at least 2 years of experience in education or working with children. Must be at least 21 years of age. Demonstrated understanding of primary school education. Demonstrated training and experience with teaching children and understanding of child development. Experience working with volunteers. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with children, parents, guardians, colleagues, volunteers, and the public in a positive, professional manner. Ability to work well with children and families of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups and respect confidentiality. Good interpersonal skills and a team
