The Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) for Interventional Oncology (INTO) will be responsible for leading aspects of the clinical-commercial optimization for JNJ-1900, an intratumorally injected radioenhancer, with an initial focus in head and neck cancer and other indications such as lung cancer. The GMAL will be involved in supporting the development of life cycle management strategies and plans under the guidance of the VP Oncology Global Medical Affairs with a dotted line into the Head, Global Scientific Affairs and Real-world Data Sciences (INTO). They will partner closely with the Global Medical Affairs Medical Strategy and Execution team, Regional Medical TA/product leaders, Clinical Development Leader, members of both J&J Innovative Medicine and J&J Interventional oncology R&D teams, 3M GCSO team and broader regional Medical Affairs teams to support the development of an integrated global medical affairs perspectives, strategies and plans.

The GMAL will work in close collaboration with the Global Scientific Affairs team within Interventional Oncology and in particular the external scientific engagement teams, driving medical affairs activities on indications in late phase (registrational and post launch) while supporting indications in earlier phases of development. The GMAL will be a core member of the Development Team, the Global Commercial Team and the 3M team supporting JNJ-1900. The GMAL will also lead both the Worldwide Medical Affairs Strategy team (W-MAST) and global publication team. The GMAL will lead the development of global medical affairs plans that reflects prioritized regional needs, and which are included in the overall Compound Development Plan. The GMAL will also be responsible for facilitating and ensuring a consistent approach to global late-stage Medical Affairs programs/activities globally. The GMAL will partner and work closely with the Head, Lung Cancer, Global Medical Affairs, to ensure high quality strategy and execution.

Responsibilities include: support development of global medical affairs strategy and plan for JNJ-1900 based on prioritized regional needs. Work with the members of the development team and Head, Lung Cancer and Strategy and Execution Lead to ensure integration with the overall global solution strategy, resulting in one global R&D and Medical Affairs development plan, inclusive of developing a Target Product Profile representing medical affairs global and regional value needs. Provide single Medical Affairs voice into the creation of development and life cycle management strategies, plans and trial design.Support pre-launch medical activities including those for JNJ-1900, Therapeutic Area global advisory boards, medical symposia and congress activities, in collaboration with functional leads of regional activity in these areas.

The GMAL will support the regional medical affairs leads and team to develop integrated global medical affairs strategies and plans and maintain open, two-way communication to ensure regional medical affairs is up to date on all plans, progress and decisions. Synchronize input and output of the Medical Affairs plan with the strategic and business plan calendars. The GMAL will support the execution of the global publications plan, as well as pre-launch global KOL communications & speaker development. The GMAL will contribute to the overall integrated evidence generation activities within Global Medical Affairs for JNJ-1900 and broader solid tumor portfolio. Responsible to ensure all global activities follow J&J Compliance principles, e.g. Health Care Compliance, etc.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a relevant masters or doctorate level advanced scientific/medical degree (e.g. MD, PhD, PharmD), with experience in oncology required with a strong preference for lung and head & neck cancer experience.

  • Prior experience in a medical affairs role for 2 years is required.

  • A minimum of 6-9 years of combined relevant experience in a medical/clinical environment, scientific function in the pharmaceutical industry is required.

  • Knowledge of Oncology Therapeutic Area products, both J&J and competitors, is required.

  • Experience working within and contributing to highly matrixed, cross-functional work teams comprised of high-level managers and executives is required.

  • A demonstrated track record of success within Medical Affairs, clinical environment and/or scientific function required.

  • Global mindset required, ability to partner cross culturally/regionally is preferred as well as an in-depth knowledge of study methodology, study data reviews and analysis.

  • In this position a successful candidate should have excellent knowledge of study execution, benefit risk management and lifecycle management.

  • Highly innovative with the ability to drive a complex and changing environment and effectively manage and resolve issues within the therapeutic area.

  • Also highly desired to have strong experience developing and managing strategic relationships with medical experts/opinion leaders.

  • Proven business understanding.

  • A minimum of 20-30% international travel is required.
