Responsible for taking styling concepts and merging them with the latest technologies to create feasible vehicle lighting system component designs. Engage heavily with other design disciplines in a collaborative process to find the best balance of marketability and create high quality drawings of the final design that satisfy technical requirements along with team targets. Support vehicle verification and manufacturing maturation activities to ensure on time delivery to customers. Take a design concept from sketch to a mass production ready part, in each of the following: managing the overall schedule, leading weekly design maturation meetings and setting priorities to meet project deadlines, negotiating with the design studio, vehicle design/test engineers, and suppliers. Provide assembly cost estimation. Use CATIA V5 to create technical assembly drawings. Bachelor's degree (or its professional experience equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or Industrial Engineering and Management; 5 yrs related professional exp; 5 yrs exp in project management taking a design concept from sketch to a mass production ready part, in each of the following: managing the overall schedule, leading weekly design maturation meetings and setting priorities to meet project deadlines, negotiating with the design studio, vehicle design/test engineers, and suppliers; 5 yrs exp in lighting assembly design; 5 yrs exp in reviewing and confirming photometric, thermal, vibration, and mold flow simulations; creating technical documents to summarize maturation results and justify technical decisions; and negotiating with factory and/or test groups to resolve start-up issues; 5 yrs exp in assembly cost estimation and in each of the following: estimating assembly cost and tooling investment, identifying and implementing value added cost reductions, negotiating cost with purchasing buyer and suppliers, and creating cost summary documents to justify changes and overall cost at each stage of development; 5 yrs exp using CATIA V5 to create 2D technical assembly drawings; 5 yrs exp creating accurate CATIA V5 layouts using both section and surface design methods to communicate and confirm design requirements; 4 yrs exp in applying latest regulations and standards for lamp installation and performance; and 4 yrs exp in applying technical requirements to ensure lamp marketability and durability, production processes used in lamp manufacturing to ensure best practices applied to the design, establishing datum and fixing method for lamp assembly to the vehicle body, ensuring maintenance requirements, and setting vehicle wire harness routing to lamp assembly.
