SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This job is responsible for operating mammographic radiologic equipment in a hospital or clinic environment as part of the diagnostic plan for patients. Work may also include assisting a physician to perform stereotactic biopsies to remove tissue from a suspected abnormality in a breast in accordance with standard protocol for the procedure. An incumbent demonstrates the competency required by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and assumes responsibility for the safe and proper operation of radiological equipment. Accuracy and clarity of the X-ray studies directly affect the accuracy and reliability of the physician¿s diagnosis and treatment.
Standard operating procedures cover most work assignments and specify the number and sequence of exposures and normal positioning of the patient for each exposure. Technical factors are determined from tables of typical settings of kilovoltage, milliamperage and time for each procedure and for differences in size and physique of the patient. Printed guidelines are supplemented by oral explanations when undertaking new assignments or changed methods.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Graduation from an accredited school of Radiological Technology.
Requires recent employment as a Radiological Mammographic Technologist, including experience with current technical aspects of patient care in the Radiology and Mammography Department.
American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT)(M).
State Certification.
Current CPR certification.
State Society of Radiological Technologist recommended
American Heart Association BLS required prior to completion of orientation.
