The Department of Public Worksvision is to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective facilities and services to the residents of Shasta County. * The Facilities Management Division*takes care of about one million square feet of County buildings. They also take care of landscaping and grounds. Public Works is in charge of capital projects, such as new County buildings and remodels.

Facilities Management is responsible for maintaining the County's investment in buildings and grounds. Currently, Facilities Management maintains over one million square feet of building space (County owned and leased) and 1.7 million square feet of grounds.

The Facilities Management services provided include janitorial, general building maintenance, small scale renovations, remodel projects as well as ADA compliancy modifications and grounds maintenance.

Facilities Management also administers the County's Fleet Management Program and manages parks in Hat Creek, French Gulch and the Balls Ferry Boat Ramp. * ABOUT THE POSITION * Under supervision, to perform a variety of general cleaning and custodial work; and to perform related work as required. ** Extra help positions are hourly employees that may work up to 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Benefits are not included.

IDEAL CANDIDATE * The ideal candidate will have prior custodial experience emptying trash receptacles, vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting, restroom sanitization, cleaning windows, sweeping walkways, and removing cobwebs in an office and maintenance facilities settings. Working knowledge of sanitizing furniture, various textiles, and upholsteries, including stain removal; and of floor care techniques including carpet cleaning; washing, stripping, waxing, and refinishing is vital to this position. Prior custodial experience in hospitals, schools, assisted living centers, and government offices is preferred. Flexibility in shift and work schedule is essential to this position. * DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS ** The Custodian II class is the experienced-level class in the Custodian series. Incumbents are expected to be familiar with janitorial supplies, equipment, and proper cleaning procedures.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Sweeps, dusts, mops, scrubs, vacuums, strips, waxes, and buffs floors; dusts, waxes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork; replenishes supplies, empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans restrooms; washes windows, walls, window shades, window sills, ledges and Venetian blinds; cleans heating and air conditioning ventilators; replaces light bulbs; cleans and dusts books and shelves; polishes metal work; moves and arranges furniture and equipment for cleaning purposes; turns out lights and secures building and windows; cleans and maintains equipment and materials used in the work; may raise and lower flags; properly sort trash and dispose of recycle products; may be assigned to lead and train Custodian I's or temporary workers; m y occasionally operate a light truck, automobile, or aerial work platform up to 50 high.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:

Knowledge of: Janitorial supplies and equipment; S.D.S. sheets and their use; methods and practices of janitorial work; chemical reactions and safe mixing of chemicals.

Ability to: Use a variety of janitorial equipment and materials; clean and care for an assigned area and equipment; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others; perform moderately heavy lifting train and oversee other workers performing janitorial duties.

These standards are typically attained withone year of related custodial work experience or experience mixing chemicals.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a California driver license may be required for some positions.
