Microsoft Corporation Finance Director - Capacity Strategy and Geo Expansion in Redmond, Washington

The Margin Strategy and Investment Optimization team is an exciting and fast-evolving finance team at the forefront of Microsoft’s Cloud-first strategy.

The charter for Geo Expansion team is to drive portfolio-level decision making for any new data center investment. As the leader of the team, you will also drive strategic partnerships and competitive intelligence to keep Microsoft Cloud ahead of competition. We are looking for a Finance Director - Capacity Strategy and Geo Expansion to support our cloud global expansion decisions into new geographies, defining, and achieving desired profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discussions on financial performance of new data center investments (expected return, gross margin impact, incremental revenue opportunity, competitive landscape in the region, etc.)

  • Liaison with Business Development on strategic partnerships, own financial modelling for such deals, including executive alignment on overall deal profitability

  • Drive portfolio-level alignment for data center investments, across different form factors, existing presence in the region and accounting for impact from strategic partnerships.

  • Drive Balance of Trade (BoT) discussions to optimize Microsoft’s leverage over potential suppliers. Partner across Engineering teams to quantify future spend and liaison with sales leadership to drive incremental revenue growth.

  • Partner with Business Development team to identify/ evaluate opportunities for vertical integration that would enhance Cloud Infrastructure operations, both in terms of efficiency and profitability

  • Integrate varied data sources into a comprehensive, clear narrative for leadership for effective decision making.

  • Co-own and drive business model, deal economics, structures and terms with customers and partners.

  • Foster collaboration with cross-functional leaders (Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance) to achieve shared objectives.

  • Identify and implement strategies to attain desired data center profitability and margin profile.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 10+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field

  • OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in business development, deals economics, or finance with a track record of progression and advancement.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to distill detailed analysis into business insights

  • Comfortable handling ambiguity and uncertainty in a business that evolves at fast pace

  • Able to manage multiple workstreams and prioritize as needed

  • Collaborative and inclusive approach to partnerships

Financial Analysis M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
