Microsoft Corporation Mechanical Engineer: Internship Opportunities - PhD - Redmond in Redmond, Washington

Mechanical Engineering Interns at Microsoft design and manufacture some of the most popular devices in the world for personal computing. This internship is in the area of reliability of the designs, materials, functionality, and production processes of electronic devices and complex mechanical systems involving advanced materials. The candidates identify key materials and process parameters to ensure highest reliability for products. For this, they need to understand usage scenarios as well as basic statistical methods.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design verification strategies and plans that connect customer experience use cases to product architecture/design.

  • Analyze test data critically and drive solutions, design changes, and trade-offs according to business priorities.

  • Create and introduce innovative test techniques and methods for robust product qualification.

  • Utilize statistical data analysis techniques to set product test requirements and limits, develop test methodologies and plans, and manage qualification cycles.

  • Conceptualizes and designs mechanical parts using 3D CAD Software.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.

  • Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or related field.

  • Ability to conceptualize and design mechanical parts using 3D CAD Software 3+ months related technical engineering experience or internship experience.

The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,550 - $12,880 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,480 - $13,920 per month.
