The Identity division in the Microsoft Security organization delivers world-class authentication services for the Microsoft cloud. Entra ID (Azure AD) is the identity platform for Azure, Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365. By using Azure Active Directory, organizations are empowered to offer their employees, partners and customers access to applications, data and resources in a secure and controlled manner. The Authentication Core team within Identity division is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager who can solve large scale problems in the infrastructure authentication service space. This service provides service-to-service authentication for first-party cloud services and is a foundational component of the Microsoft Cloud. We are looking for a leader for one of the STS teams (Security Token Service) to deliver the next wave of improvements in scale, performance, and capability in this area. Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include leading a team of engineers in Authentication Core services:

  • Responsible for delivering authentication scenarios in service-to-service infrastructure authentication.

  • Collaborate with teams across the Identity division and Microsoft to improve the security, scalability, performance, and user experience of these authentication services.

  • Drive impact across Microsoft cloud, as authentication and identity are core to Azure, Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of industry experience working on commercial software applications or services

  • 2+ years of management experience

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • Track record of delivering innovation and results, leadership and collaboration

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
