Microsoft Corporation Senior Cybersecurity Technical Writer in Redmond, Washington

We’re looking for an experienced, versatile Senior Cybersecurity Technical Writer to work with Microsoft Threat Intelligence researchers/analysts. In this position, you’ll work with our security experts to plan, write, and publish articles about the latest cybersecurity threats and trends, including threat actors and the infrastructure that enables them, to help keep our customers and the industry safe and informed.

We’re the Microsoft 365 content experience team and we support business and enterprise customers by providing them with the latest threat intelligence, security research, and actionable protection guidance. Our content support for various security teams spans across endpoints (Windows, Mac, Linux), email and collaboration tools, identities, and cloud services and apps, helping shine a light on the latest cybersecurity attacks. Whether it’s in the context of ransomware attack, supply chain compromise, or AI threat research, this role will support the content needs of our security team, providing in-depth information about the attack and remediation steps. It includes an in-depth review of the campaign and the threat actor, mapping of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to the MITRE framework, and visuals to help our customers understand the attack.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Work closely with our security researchers/analysts to understand the latest attacks and malware threats.

  • Use researcher notes and information to author articles about individual threats and campaigns. You’ll use the right verbiage and guidance to inform and reassure our customers on what to do in case they come across those threats.

  • Work in an agile environment with Microsoft security teams around the world.

  • Contribute to the social media, editorial, and communications strategy to amplify content and develop cohesive security narrative.

  • Work with proprietary tools to publish articles to the Microsoft 365 Defender portal.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in writing, content design, information technology (IT), or coding/programming

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years experience in creating technical documentation and security content for enterprise, IT, and cybersecurity.

  • 5+ years experience working with cybersecurity researchers/analysts and in-depth understanding of cybersecurity, incident response, malware, adversary tactics and techniques, and telemetry data analysis.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in a related technical domain.

  • 10+ years of proven writing, content design, information technology (IT),

  • OR coding/programming experience

  • OR 4+ years of proven writing, content design, IT,

  • OR coding/programming experience AND a Technical Certification

  • OR Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, English, Writing, Journalism, Communications

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ year(s) of project leadership/management experience.

  • BA/BS degree in English, Journalism, Technical Communications, Communication Research, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience acceptable.

  • Proven technical expertise and confidence that helps you to ramp up on new projects quickly.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

  • Independent, proactive, resourceful, has demonstrated project management, systemic thinking, content strategy, and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Growth mindset and learn-it-all attitude.

  • Familiarity with AI and associated AI skills operationalization.

Technical Writing IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
