We're looking for a motivated hardware engineer to help extend our core hardware capability. Day to day tasks for this role may include the design and implementation of novel hardware to enable Microsoft’s business success. You'll participate in developing architectural specifications using careful HW/SW co-design and implement designs using Verilog. You will need a background that includes computer science and computer system architecture design fundamentals.
We are a cross-discipline team in the Azure Hardware Architecture Group with a collaborative culture and a strong track record of delivering strategic impact to Microsoft.
As part of the Cloud Accelerated Systems and Technologies team, you would join a cross-discipline team of highly capable and motivated people in the Azure Hardware Architecture Group. You will be expected to collaborate across multiple workstreams and roles like architects, program management leads and engineering leads across the Azure Hardware Architecture Group. Excellent communication and presentation skills are important to be able to work with these partners and our customers.
Responsibilities include robust performant hardware design from inception (spec, architecture, micro-architecture) to productization (validation, FPGA implementation, deployment, support).
RTL development in Verilog or other languages for specialized accelerators and other supporting IP.
Co-design with software partner teams on HW/SW interfaces.
Design and code review of peer work.
B.S or higher preferably in computer engineering, computer science, or related fields OR 4 years equivalent work experience as a Hardware Engineer in lieu of an advanced degree.
5+ years with RTL development
M.S. or PhD in EE, ECE, CE, CS or related fields.
5+ years of RTL development experience (Verilog/VHDL) and prototyping (FPGA/ASIC)
Strong communication skills and the desire to collaborate in a team of engineers.
Strong background in computer architecture and embedded systems.
Experience with FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays).
Experience with hardware/software co-design and low-level SW development
Prior experience in building large scale cloud services and distributed systems.
Experience with network protocols.
