Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. We are looking for an experienced information systems and technology (IS&T) professional to join a growing IS&T team embedded within Microsoft’s SCHIE engineering team. The Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) will be part of a dynamic engineering infrastructure team enabling our technical creativity. This SRE will have primary responsibilities overseeing the server support infrastructure enabling and managing our hardware validation labs with cloud services and related engineering systems and the operational teams delivering these services. Responsibilities
Administrative server specification, deployment, maintenance, and support
Top level support for Windows cluster and lab support infrastructure issues
Craft operating system deployment, patching, and orchestration systems
Oversee external server operations staff
Review telemetry for server functions
Define process and policy around server architecture concerns
Interface and advise engineering teams on complex network connected hardware deployments
Interface and advise other disciplines within IS&T on deployment, security, management concerns
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
6+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
6+ Years’ Windows Systems Administration Experience
2+ Years’ UNIX/Linux Systems Administration Experience
4+ Years’ system automation experience using some scripting language such as Shell, PowerShell, Perl, or Python
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ Years’ Azure cloud administrative experience delivering IaaS services
Experience providing technical and operational leadership
Experience providing IS&T infrastructure to hardware or silicon engineering teams
Experience supporting silicon emulation infrastructure
Solid understanding of systems administration, automation, and monitoring
Experience with Industry Compliance, Security, and Regulatory Standards such as ISO 27001, FedRAMP, NIST 800-171 Rev.2, NIST 800-53 Rev.4.
Experience in Risk Management
Understanding of fundamental statistics
Site Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
