Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain services that support quantum job execution in the Azure cloud and on hardware.

  • Build experiences that power quantum exploration and learningon Azure and as part of our public website.

  • Author copilot agents to support users in their quantum learning and development.

  • Write software that is robust, scalable and secure, and aligns with Azure best practices and compliance requirements.

  • Contribute to open-source APIs and SDKs that enable interaction with quantum hardware and simulators.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team meetings to ensure high-quality software delivery.

  • Collaborate with compiler, hardware, and quantum application teams to integrate and optimize quantum computing workflows.

  • Drives efforts to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, and usage. Drives sustaining feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Creates outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards.

  • Serve as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and participate in on-call rotations to ensure the reliability and availability of our services, implementing solutions and mitigations for the long-term health of the service. Reviews and writes root cause analysis and shares insights with the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on cloud services and scalable computing.

  • Programming skills in languages such as C#, Python, and Javascript.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
