We are the Defender for DevOps team in the Microsoft Cloud and Enterprise Security Organization. We are a diverse and inclusive engineering team that is investing in building the next generation of security services designed to help protect cloud services from code to cloud. Cyberattacks have increased significantly in the last several years and attackers are increasingly shifting left to compromise source code, build systems, and supply chains. Our team is looking for someone who is creative, energetic, and driven to make a significant impact on Microsoft customers and help defend the DevOps process from the next generation of cyber security attacks.

We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to join the Defender For DevOps team. As a senior software engineer of our Security Integration team, you will help us to build the most technically advanced and market leading security tooling in the industry. Integrating across platforms and architectures, our goal is to help Microsoft (1st party) and Azure customers (3rd party) to integrate security tooling seamlessly within their CI/CD pipelines and development processes. You will have opportunities to learn and grow in your role developing applications focused on making security processes easy to use. You will partner effectively with other members of our team and partner teams to deliver value and impact to the SecEng products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and architect high quality security tool integrations into a unified, easy to use application used by millions of pipelines every day.  

  • Innovate, prototype, and expand the possibilities as we look ahead into optimizing for performance and supporting new capabilities helping our customers to shift-left and protect their products early in the development cycle.  

  • Work closely with designers and product managers to build alpha/preview releases and iterating and learning from them to deliver production experiences.  

  • Solve significant technological challenges impacting the team and our customers. 

  • Partner and collaborate with peer engineers and customers to deliver impact on our products. 

  • Participate and provide high quality feedback in design reviews, code reviews and other team activities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of professional experience building large scale distributed systems on cloud services (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • You are comfortable with object-oriented programming languages such as C#, C++, and Java and have a solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns

  • You want to focus on building software that solves real problems for real people 

  • You understand that it’s not enough to write code that works. It must be well-designed, secure, easy to test, and easy to enhance over time. 

  • Ability to drive technical investigations and prototyping in a fast-paced startup environment 

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
