We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team! The Azure Digital Operations organization is building the next generation edge platform tailored to address the unique requirements of messaging, data processing, and connectivity for customers in the manufacturing, industrial, and retail sectors. Our Azure IoT Operations messaging team is at the helm of developing advanced messaging and data processing services that integrate seamlessly with the Azure Arc platform. These services are engineered to be highly available, scalable, observable, and secure, making them ideal for mission-critical applications. They facilitate large-scale data ingestion, processing, and support operations directly at the edge

We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join this transformative journey and play a crucial role in redefining and advancing the future of Azure IoT Operations. In this role, you will focus on developing robust messaging services and data processing solutions that utilize cutting-edge technologies like WebAssembly (Wasm) and operate on Kubernetes at the edge. Ideal candidates will possess a solid foundation in Computer Science fundamentals, demonstrate exceptional leadership and technical design capabilities, and have a keen interest in solving complex, ambiguous challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable, reliable, and secure services optimized for Kubernetes at the edge. 

  • Work with architects andstakeholdersto define direction of the product, develop architectural proposals, design and implementation components, and ship features to customers. 

  • Lead by example within the team by producing extensible and maintainable code. Apply metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns and best practices. 

  • Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability when reviewing code, and understand when code is ready to be shared or delivered. 

  • Implement test automation to ensure robustness of the product.

  • Design for observability and build rich diagnostics into the product.  

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, or Python 

  • OR equivalent experience. 

  • 3+ years of experience in developing, shipping, and supporting production grade services or products.  

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in working on Kubernetes and distributed systems.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
