Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

The mission of Microsoft Digital Security & Resilience (DSR) is to enable Microsoft to build the most trusted devices and services, while keeping our company safe and our data protected. ​As part of the Microsoft Security organization, and a steward of Microsoft and our customer’s data, a core function of Microsoft DSR is ensuring the security of every aspect of the business. Microsoft DSR is responsible for company-wide information security and compliance, with a strategic focus on information protection, assessment, awareness, governance, and enterprise business continuity. As a part of azure core security services, team owns the charter of enabling confidential virtual machines in Azure. This is a cutting-edge initiative which sits at the intersection of security and distributed systems. As customer zero, we deploy and secure these services inside Microsoft and then share best practices with enterprise customers at scale across the globe. This is an opportunity to understand and influence how the virtual machine life cycle works in Azure and enhance it to meet the confidentiality requirements. We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer with experience working with highly scalable cloud services.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding the user requirements, working and collaborating with all the stakeholders and building the plans to fulfill the requirements.

  • Leading the design and architectural discussions, creating designs for high level architecture.

  • Writing a high-quality code and leading by the example of writing highly scalable and maintainable code.

  • Using various debugging techniques to identify the root cause and design and implement the fix for the issues.

  • Maintaining operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

  • Implementing solutions and mitigations to more complex issues impacting performance or functionality of Live Site service and escalates as necessary.

  • Reviewing and writing issues postmortem and sharing insights with the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualfications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

  • 4 years of experience with distributed systems.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience in security role with highly scalable cloud services.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
