Generac Clean Energy is looking for a motivated Lead Hardware in Loop (HIL) Validation engineer with insatiable curiosity to help create and validate next generation energy storageproducts. The position is available in Reno, NV.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Architect HIL systems to test our clean energy products like Smart Disconnect Switch, Inverter, HV DC-DC Converter.

  • Select appropriate test hardware and software platforms that can scale across our products.

  • Build real-time models of our systems to run in test hardware.

  • Work with system engineers & SW developers to identify, generate and implement test cases and verification criteria for our products.

  • Work with test manager to configure test setups and test runs according to the test plan.

  • Develop test automation, automate test tools, generate, and improve automation scripts.

  • Document and track issues as appropriate and participate in triaging of issues with different teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution.

  • Work with integration engineers to design and build test benches to test and high voltage and/or low voltage systems.

  • Help identify gaps in requirements and work with the relevant engineers to update the requirement documents accordingly.

  • Work with functional safety engineers to develop test cases and validation criteria to satisfy Functional Safety requirements as per UL1998.

  • Work with the relevant engineers to meet diagnostic coverage requirements.

  • Troubleshoot Systems/ECUs using lab and measurement equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters as well as tools such as Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, CANape and NI Tools etc.

  • Participate in the design of a world-class engineering effort to bring our home energy system to a new level of refinement.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering degree.

  • 5+ years of HIL test experience.

  • Experience developing conforming test assets for hardware and software certification.

  • Experience testing embedded software.

  • Proficient with National Instrument (NI) tools and hardware (Veristand, Labview, PXI).

  • Experience with CAN bus, DBC file management and CAN bus tools like cantools, PCAN Explorer, Vector Canalyzer or CANApe is desired.

  • Excellent Python and/or C software scripting skills.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
