Microsoft Corporation ROC Launch Portfolio Planning Mgr. in Reno, Nevada

The Field Operations and Deal Management Launch team are responsible for implementation change across the Regional Operations Centers (ROCs). With our team based across Dublin, Singapore, Fort Lauderdale and Reno, our responsibilities include:

  • Engagement with Corp Ops Org, assessing Corp Launch portfolio to establish ROC Implementation support required across ROC Launch functions.

  • Own & manage the launch portfolio for the Regional Operations Center (ROCs), leading the implementation of new launches (product, device, program, service, business model, etc.) on behalf of the ROCs.

  • Ultimately team are responsible for ensuring launches land successful across the ROCs for our Ops teams, Partners, Field and Customers.

  • This year ROC Launch teams we will manage the delivery of approx. 150 different launches.

The ROC Launch Portfolio Planning Mgr is key engagement point between Regional Operation Centers and Corp Operations functions. They are responsible for engaging across various Corp Ops teams to identify Launches that impact the ROC, complete initial assessment, and then manage ROC Implementation Mgr assignment to ensure successful launch delivery across the ROCs. They maintain the ROC Launch Portfolio, approx 150 launches each year across Commercial Sales, Commercial Partner, Software & Services, Compliance/Tax/Trade, Finance, Legal, Devices, Strategic Ventures etc, ensuring appropriate resourcing and adherence to launch framework.

This is a critical role to ensure a broad and complex portfolio of change lands successfully across the ROCs, while driving awareness and managing expectations across a broad ROC and Corp stakeholder community.


  • Own and maintain xROC Launch portfolio. Sitting between ROC and Corp, first point of engagement on Launch resourcing.

  • Manage Launch intake, assessment of Corp Launch portfolio, identifying ROC resource requirements and assignment of appropriate Launch Manager to deliver launch across the ROCs.

  • Engage across 4 ROC Launch functions, ensuring clear launch assignment principles established and maintained, balancing functional impact and capacity.

  • Own ROC engagement with Corp Portfolio managers, understanding various portfolio strategies, launch pipeline, current and future trends, to ensure appropriate ROC resourcing.

  • Own ROC Launch capacity model, forecasting resource requirements, identifying opportunities and constraints, prioritising workload while managing stakeholder expectations.

  • Managing Launch execution, adherence to Launch Framework (ODLC), identifying recurring areas of risk while partnering with key stakeholders to resolve.

  • Managing Launch Portfolio review with leadership, clearly defining launch portfolio impact across various ROC functions.

  • Establish guidance for Launch support provided by ROC execution resources, ensuring optimal cross functional process in place and clarity regarding expectations of various execution roles.

  • Contribute to development of launch processes and frameworks, ensuring we continually develop how we manage launches given dynamic launch environment.


Ideal Candidate Attributes:

Ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in complex stakeholder engagement, negotiation and conflict management; portfolio management including aspects of risk management, governance and decision making. Analytical and business judgement in complex scenarios

Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree

  • 5+ years of demonstrated Project and Portfolio Management experience preferably in an Operations environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement change.

  • Flexibility to maintain focus through change and ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to build solid relationships with individuals at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or MBA

  • Demonstrated excellence in thought leadership, innovation and execution management; ability to influence without authority.

  • Ability to identify and implement industry best practices to improve existing processes; demonstrable achievement within a results-driven, highly ambiguous and dynamic environment.

  • Broad working knowledge of Microsoft including business groups, segment and support functions including multiple channels and business groups.
