The Red Gate Group is seeking a highly skilled Sr. DevOps Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this critical role, you will be a key leader in developing, maintaining, and modernizing mission-critical IT systems. As a platform engineer, you’ll take the lead on building innovative solutions, transforming legacy systems, and driving the adoption of modern DevOps practices. Your technical expertise and leadership will shape the digital landscape, ensuring seamless integration of cutting-edge tools while mentoring the next generation of developers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and support of DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Manage Kubernetes-based containerization, including building images and orchestrating deployments.

  • Oversee the deployment and management of automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Chef.

  • Implement and optimize infrastructure-as-code environments for large-scale deployments.

  • Ensure security and compliance by evaluating and mitigating vulnerabilities in containerized environments.

  • Mentor junior developers and guide teams toward innovative, mission-aligned solutions.

  • Active TS/SCI

  • Experience developing custom applications and supporting them in a production environment

  • 5+ years of experience building and supporting DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines

  • 3+ years of experience with containerization, building images and orchestrating deployments in Kubernetes

  • 2+ years of experience managing tools deployed with Helm using ArgoCD or Flux and writing custom Helm charts

  • 2+ years of experience with automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef)

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code environments, including activities around the automated server or network configurations, large-scale software deployments, or monitoring and testing, such as continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)

  • Knowledge of container networking, monitoring, and storage solutions

  • Knowledge of container security technologies with experience evaluating and mitigating or resolving vulnerability findings

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience developing in Java or Python

  • Experience with Prometheus/Grafana and/or ElasticSearch/Kibana and FluentD

  • Experience with design, deployment, and management of Cloud environments, including AWS or Azure

  • Experience with using or migrating continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline solutions or tools, including Jenkins, Git, or TeamCity

  • Experience with system integration using a variety of protocols, including JSON, REST, and XML

  • Experience with scripting in Bash, PowerShell, Python, Groovy, or Ruby and leveraging JSON, YAML, or XML for configuration

  • Knowledge of cloud and virtualization-based technologies, including Docker, Azure, AWS, or VMware

  • Knowledge of Linux or UNIX administration and automation

  • Knowledge of foundational system administration principles

  • Knowledge of and experience with classified environment processes and protocols

  • Kubernetes certification
