Manufacturing Technician II

Position Description

As a Manufacturing Technician II at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., you will have the unique opportunity to be part of a world-class team and contribute to the flawless assembly, testing, and solving of final electromechanical assemblies. This role requires outstanding skills in using a SEM or FIB for alignments, as well as experience in electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic assembly. You will be responsible for reading and understanding wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Bring up and pack final products, including SEM, ensuring their flawless functionality and quality.

  • Test products or subassemblies for functionality and quality, addressing any problems that arise.

  • Plan and lay out work to meet production and schedule requirements.

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the function and application of the product.

  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

  • Ensure that quality standards are met, applying 5s and lean understanding.

  • Identify and resolve root causes of excessive waste, scrap, labor, re-work, or customer returns.

  • Collaborate with engineering in developing processes and procedures.

  • Perform light equipment PM and repair.

Job Requirements

  • Equivalent experience is acceptable in lieu of a high school diploma. Additionally, having at least 5 years of related validated experience would be advantageous.

  • Proven experience in assembling and solving sophisticated, detailed electromechanical systems.

  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment, adhering to established procedures and production schedules.

  • Strong work ethic and exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Great teammate, able to work effectively with others.

  • Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

  • Capable of lifting 35 pounds unassisted.

  • Willingness to work sitting, standing, or kneeling for extended periods of time.

Desired Skills

  • Appropriate visual acuity and hand/eye coordination to assemble, manipulate, and test small, precision electronic and mechanical components.

  • Proficiency with standard electronic assembly and testing equipment, including soldering irons, multimeters, crimp tools, torque tools, etc.

  • Attentive to detail, capable of working independently, and driven by goals.

  • Familiarity with quality management systems and safety programs.

  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
