Kalkomey is looking for a dynamic and experienced Sr. Product Design Manager who will serve as both a leader and a hands-on contributor to our design team. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic design direction of our products while managing and mentoring a team of talented designers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing people, building design systems, and contributing directly to the design process.

You will report directly to the Chief Growth Officer and work closely with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, marketing, and customer support to deliver a best-in-class product experience for our outdoor enthusiast customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and drive the strategic design vision for our products, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user needs.

  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Hands-On Design: Actively contribute to the design process by producing high-quality design work, from concept ideation to final execution, across various platforms and devices.

  • User-Centric Approach: Advocate for the user throughout the design process, leveraging user research and feedback to inform design decisions and drive product improvements.

  • Design System/Pattern Development: Establish and maintain design systems and/or design patterns to ensure consistency and scalability and consistency across our suite of products.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that design deliverables meet high standards of quality, usability, and accessibility, conducting thorough reviews and providing constructive feedback to team members.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements and technical constraints into innovative and intuitive design solutions.

  • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in product design, sharing insights and knowledge with the team to foster growth and innovation.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in design or a related field

  • 7+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on digital products

  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, with a proven track record of building and developing high-performing design teams

  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects and proven ability to deliver innovative and impactful design solutions

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools

  • Experience building and maintaining design systems and/or design patterns for complex product ecosystems

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present and articulate design concepts and rationale to diverse audiences

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating exceptional user experiences
