RCG Behavioral Health Network ABA Therapist or Behavior Technician in Richmond, Virginia

Candidates will be assigned to center-based with additional hours for in-home therapy.

As a behavior technician you will make a strong, lasting, and positive impact on the lives of children every day. Behavior Technicians utilize and apply Applied Behavioral Analysis principles to clients with autism and related diagnoses in the home, community, and school settings. ABA therapy involves both psychological and educational techniques based on the needs of each client. The behavior technician seeks to motivate the client through positive reinforcement of socially acceptable behavior and teaching replacement strategies for challenging behavior. ABA therapy has shown to increase socialization, play, and language/communication skills while minimizing or eliminating challenging behavior.

 This position may require the behavior technician to intervene and decrease physically challenging behaviors such as aggression toward others and injury toward self. An ideal candidate will do so while upholding client dignity and communicating respectfully to and about the client.

*Center-based will help with transporting clients via RCG vehicle and must have a clean driving record.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct services to clients and implements daily activities as outlined by the individualized treatment plan under the direct supervision and delegation of a Behavior Analyst.

  • Supports and provides family training that integrates behavioral modification strategies to be implemented in the home and or the natural environment under the direct supervision and delegation of a Behavior Analyst.

  • Completes all required documentation including behavioral data, daily notes, and weekly billing records in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Utilizes safe & appropriate safety management protocols when working with clients.

  • Collaborates and coordinates with other service providers working with clients to encourage consistency among client families/caregivers and all providers such as Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and Physical Therapists.

  • Participates in supervision on a weekly basis with a Behavior Analyst to discuss client updates, progress, or concerns.

  • Must have a valid Virginia State driver’s license and be willing to provide transportation of clients as needed based on the needs of the assigned program.

  • Available between the hours of 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Full-Time), and at least one Saturday per month (hours are 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Required: Must be at least 18 years of age and have demonstrated completion of high school or equivalent/higher at the time of application.

  • Associates degree preferred. 

  • Coursework in social work, psychology, counseling, sociology or related field preferred

  • Preferred Experience: A strong background working with individuals ages 0-21 in a classroom, child care center or 1:1 setting; experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis; Educational, Speech, or Health Services experience. 

  • Must undergo a background check within 180 days of submitting a completed RBT Certification Application

  • Must remain under the supervision of a training supervisor and mentor for at least 180 days contingent on completing a competency-based training package.

  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly.

  • Practical time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and community members.

  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by the code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

  • Ensure all documentation on assigned clients meets Medicaid and other federal, state, or BACB required regulations.

  • Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA laws.

  • Commitment to ongoing training and development relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training to perform job responsibilities to the required standard.

  • Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols.

Additional Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to participate in and follow prescribed crisis management techniques

  • Ability to quickly change direction to stay with clients.

  • Ability to independently go from a seated to a standing position.

  • Ability to kneel for extended periods of time
