  •    POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for collaborating with Director of Literacy in planning and supporting the district-wide literacy program. The District Literacy Coach provides research and support to all Beaufort County Schools in standards based critical thinking (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) across the content areas. The District Literacy Coach will work directly with adults and report directly to all principals of Title 1 Schools in Beaufort County. The District Literacy Coach will support the implementation of the Reading and ELA program in all classrooms. The District Literacy Coach will be housed at Robert Smalls International Academy but will service all Title 1 Schools in Bearfort County. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Models and demonstrates effective classroom practices for school-based coaches and teachers with a strong base on writing.

  • Observes and provides feedback to coaches and teachers in classroom literacy practices.

  • Works directly with coaches and teachers to ensure effective literacy practices are incorporated in all lessons.

  • Provides research-based information and support to literacy coaches and teachers.

  • Attends and presents district, school, and self-designed professional development to BCSD staff.

  • Conducts weekly/monthly meetings to update school-based coaches in current literacy research and practices.

  • Shares instructional best practices with district and school personnel.

  • Coordinates and analyzes student quantitative and qualitative assessment data, including formative assessments, MAP, Running Records, and SC Ready to support schools in the use of data to guide instruction and interventions.

  • Coordinates intervention and support programs for students reading below grade level.

  • Lead parent and community meetings/programs in support of the literacy program.

  • Organizes and facilitates the Beaufort County School District Literacy Plan.

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Literacy, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Executive Director of Elementary, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a valid South Carolina Professional Teaching Certificate or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.

  • Must be Highly Qualified in the content area.

  • Master's degree in Elementary/Middle School or Reading/ELA preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have completed a program of study in education from an accredited college or university.

  • Three to five years’ experience as a reading/ELA teacher.
