Department/College Background
TheDepartment of Health and Human Performancein the College of Health Professions at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking candidates who have demonstrated a record of success in teaching and service that are commensurate with an appointment as a Lecturer to begin Fall 2025. The position requires teaching undergraduate courses in exercise science and kinesiology, serving as a field supervisor for practicums, serving as a student advisor, serving on university, college, and departmental committees and task forces, and performing other duties assigned by the department chair.
Faculty will be required to teach in a variety of settings incorporating technology and student-engaged pedagogies to maximize student success and be able to conduct scholarship work in the field. Given that UTRGV is a distributed campus, faculty may be required to teach online or hybrid courses or teach at different locations. Service to the department college, university, community, and professional organizations is an integral part of the faculty member’s responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
An earned master’s degree in exercise science or kinesiology from an accredited university or current enrollment in a master’s program in exercise science or kinesiology with the degree to be conferred prior to the start date of Fall 2025.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Earned master’s degree in exercise science or kinesiology from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in teaching at the college level is highly desirable with demonstrated excellence in teaching and service in exercise science or kinesiology. Experience in teaching in a clinical laboratory in exercise science preferred. Work experience in a clinical setting, strength and conditioning, and/or research is preferred. Certifications in Certified Strength and Conditioning ( CSCS ) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) from the American College of Sports Medicine ( ACSM ) are also preferred credentials.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
