Description

As a Maintenance Technician II, you will use your skills to support Manufacturing or Distribution Operations in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and compressors, sensors, and other devices throughout the building. Building maintenance common to the trades may be included periodically. Routinely completes work orders or services equipment common to the operations related to installation, maintenance and repair of conveyors, bagging machines, temperature control systems, processing, automated packaging, and distribution equipment. In addition to further developing your skills, you will mentor junior technicians to grow in their roles. Supports preventive maintenance routines.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

At this level the Maintenance Technician performs a broad scope of work independently applying multiple trades that may include working in multiple maintenance trades such as hydraulics, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, fabrication, and welding. Regularly applies advanced working knowledge of technical food/fruit processing, ripening, temperature controls, programming settings, manufacturing equipment, metal detection, and varied fields of specialization. Exercises general application of principles, theories, and concepts, and proposes a course of action. Performs advance shop floor competencies.

Job Description:

  • Repair and maintenance of high-speed equipment and conveyers, dismantling and assembling multiple brands of mechanical and electrical equipment, repair and replacement of defective parts, and knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

  • Able to troubleshoot electronic programs and components efficiently to improve, Test or change settings.

  • Applies mechanical expertise in determining work methods and procedures for producing quality product.

  • Use a variety of test equipment, machines, hand tools and computer aided equipment.

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production needs in an expeditious professional manner.

  • Starts devices to test their performance and runs packaging and product for testing purposes.

  • Perform maintenance in accordance with maintenance schedules, utilizing appropriate blueprints, diagrams, sketches, national codes and verbal/written instructions.

  • Sets up and operates all tools and equipment necessary to troubleshoot and perform work assigned.

  • Works within established manufacturing procedures to achieve efficiency, quality, and optimum production objectives. Repairs mechanical equipment and system controls.

  • Receives work order/request, reviews to determine tool, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies requirements, and schedules its accomplishment.

  • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, exhaust fans, blowers, and electrical controls.

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation, listens to their sounds and troubleshoots equipment to locate causes of trouble.

  • Maintains and services a range of building equipment such as HVAC, lighting, water, and sewer, etc.

  • Assists in the installation of new plant equipment

  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Contains cost by conserving used equipment and supplies when able.

  • Trouble shoot issues and repair failures, removing, replacing, assembling, and installing parts and components involving sheet metal, frames, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, transport refrigeration, tires, wheels, bearings, coupling units, and painting.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

  • Operates shop tools, equipment, and as many machines related to maintenance as skill level will permit

  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.

  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

  • Responsible for completing routine preventive maintenance duties with accurate documentation. Lubricates and cleans parts.

  • Computer literacy to complete and update work orders, reports, invoices, and to research information.

  • Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures. May complete routine inspections, research vendors or parts, and participate in audits as needed.

  • Routinely communicates with the Maintenance and Operations teams to keep everyone informed of an equipment down for repair.

  • May maintain transport trailer condition by reviewing shop orders and listening to operator complaints.

  • Responsible for maintaining quality within the scope of the job description.

  • Performs other duties as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of related Maintenance Technician/ Mechanical repair work in a related industry

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education.

  • An Associates or higher degree, vocational education, apprenticeship program, certificates or training related to the trades, mechanics or engineering is preferred

  • 2+ years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls, the repair of material handling equipment, electro/mechanical equipment and principles

  • Experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures

  • 1+ year of blueprint and electrical schematic reading

  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Required to apply advanced working knowledge of technical field/area of specialization. Exercises general application of principles, theories and concepts, and proposes a course of action. Performs advance shop floor competencies.

  • Experience working in a chilled food factory or related environment is preferred

  • Good knowledge and understanding of Safe work practices common to the trades

  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) helpful

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of applying common mechanical processes, conveyer systems, procedures, and repairs commonly to food manufacturing equipment

  • Basic knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Basic mechanical knowledge of AC/DC powered forklifts and pallet jacks

  • Basic knowledge of all aspects of facility maintenance with the ability to perform minor repairs for multiple trades with competency and proficiency

  • Ability to work in a cold/ damp environment for extended periods

  • An understanding of lean manufacturing principles and key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

  • Must be able to source parts for all necessary repairs

  • Must have strong interpersonal and employee relation skills

  • Ability to read, comprehend and speak professionally with team members

  • Must have basic mathematical skills

WORK DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job work is primarily performed in a chilled environment or maintenance shop. Regularly required to stand, walk, squat, stoop, bend, reach, talk or hear. Required to use hands and fingers finger, handle, lift, feel, push or pull objects. Exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently. Often required to lift and carry 10 lbs force constantly to move objects.
