California Newspapers LP Press Operator Printing in Riverside, California

*Summary:*

Southern California News Group, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group is looking for a Press Operator III to join the team! As a Press Operator III at our production facility, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation of printing presses to ensure the timely and high-quality production of newspapers. You will work in the art of ink and water balance, as well as maintaining and adjusting color registration.

*What you will do:*

  • Sets process color, identifies and corrects registration issues on multiple process color leads

  • Develops the skills needed to manage back-to-back (comic) process configuration

  • Develops the skills needed to maintain a running folder

  • Unit cutoff, margins and intro into unit to unit compensation

  • Assists Press Operator Leads by paging out the paper, monitoring ink and registration, gray bars, and correct ink

  • Re-webs the press as needed, and checks color ink against color proofs, press to press and utilization of Spectrodensitometer for Graybar accuracy

  • Performs unit (ink couple) set up, which includes reading the run sheet, setting the ink, water and rails and webbing the press

  • Insure quality, reliability, waste, productivity and safety standards are maintained during production

  • Perform routine process related maintenance

  • Complete daily production records and file production materials. Insure that work areas remain neat and orderly

  • Work with Press Operations Managers to insure production of a quality product adhering to established time requirements

  • Maintain clear communication of performance standards and provide feedback

  • Perform other duties as requested

*What you will bring:*

  • Prior printing experience required

  • Experience using Urbanite or Goss Community Press

  • Must be willing to work the night shift, weekends and holidays

  • Ability to stand, bend, climb, reach and kneel repeatedly during a 8 hour shift

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Ability to read and understand mark ups for page location and color positions on all runs

  • Can properly plate and remove plates, remove and install blankets, and purge black and color ink rails

  • Competency in achieving ink and water balances, and density targets during press runs

  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

This is a fully onsite, night shift role in Riverside, CA.

*The hourly wage is $18.00 - $25.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).*
