    JOB SUMMARY

    Plans, promotes, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates assigned adult recreations programs and community events.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Gerontology, or other closely related field, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

    Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plans, promotes, and coordinates adult activities, programs, and community events.

  • Identifies the needs and feasibility of current and future programs and events.

  • Hires, trains, promotes, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates temporary employees and volunteers.

  • Assists with preparing and administrating individual program budgets as appropriate, monitors expenditures and payroll.

  • Completes post-program evaluations which include patron feedback, program success and failures, event budget monitoring report, and implementation for future programs and events.

  • Manages multiple programs simultaneously.

  • Participates in job-related committees and professional development activities.

  • Purchases program supplies and equipment. Maintains and controls inventory.

  • Provides effective customer service. Reconciles program and patron complains and responds to sensitive issues with general guidance from the supervisor.

  • Prepares assigned reports.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

    Knowledge of:

  • Developing and administrating older adult activities, programs, and special events

  • Word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and other related software

  • Supervisory principles and practices

  • Public relations principles and techniques

  • General knowledge of older adult physical and mental imparities

    Skills and Abilities to:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Work with computer software related to job specific duties

  • Organize workloads and prioritize tasks to adhere to deadlines

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, and other departments or organizations

  • Maintain records and prepare reports

  • Delegate tasks and give staff appropriate direction to complete assigned tasks

  • Supervise and train subordinate staff and volunteers

Additional Information

The Active Aging Program operates 15 senior centers throughout Salt Lake County. The successful candidate may be asked to work at any of these senior centers. The Centers Program Coordinator is responsible for programming and activities for participants at the senior center. This position also provides support for the Aging & Adult Services’ Virtual Senior Center. Experience using virtual meeting software platforms is preferred. This position requires in-office work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Work duties are typically performed in a general office setting. Requires lifting, sitting, and bending.
