LifePoint Health Director of Surgical Services in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Director of Surgical Services. The Director of Surgical Services is responsible and accountable for coordinating and supervising the care provided to patients having operative or other procedures performed in the Operating Room. Responsible for overseeing and managing the sterile processing areas supporting perioperative services and coordinating the reprocessing of and delivery of items to other areas within the health care organization.

Essential Functions:

Manage the Surgical Services area both operationally and fiscally.

Verify that perioperative personnel provide safe patient care in the areas managed.

Incorporate and assist perioperative personnel with assimilating evidence=-based practices into patient care.

Assist perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.

Verify that educational resources are available for perioperative team education and hold perioperative personnel accountable for attendance and completion.

Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the surgical area.

Facilitate or serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.

Evaluate Surgical Services personnel performance.

Interview for perioperative personnel and sterile processing team selection.

Verify perioperative personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Verify that necessary perioperative personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.

Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical team.

Identify expected outcomes for sterile processing services.

Develop and implement the strategic plan and processes for sterile processing services to attain expected outcomes within the organizational structure.

Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

Collect and analyze comprehensive data necessary to develop and support decisions relevant to the delivery of sterile processing services.

Communicate the identified plan for sterile processing services to internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with stakeholders to improve sterile processing services.

Coordinate implementation of sterile processing services, using human and capital resources.

Employ strategies to promote workplace safety and health in the sterile processing areas.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the sterile processing services strategic plan toward achieving desired outcomes.

Guide quality improvement of sterile processing services using key indicators.

Support and integrate current evidence into sterile processing services.

Use human and material resources efficiently to deliver safe, high-quality, and cost-effective sterile processing services.

Provide guidance and coordinate education and competency verification activities for sterile processing personnel regarding professional guidelines, recommended practices, and regulatory and accreditation standards pertinent to sterile processing.

Maintain records to document ongoing educational and competency verification activities of staff.

*Job Requirements: * *Minimum Education: * Supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership competence. Satisfactory completion of orientation program and probationary period.

Minimum Work Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in OR nursing.

Required Licenses: [/Pennsylvania, United States/] /Registered Nurse/ Current nurse’s license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories required. Certified in Endoscope Reprocessor or willing to obtain within 18 months. Certified in Central Service Technician or willing to obtain within 18 months.

Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Exposure to blood and body fluids, sharp instruments and other devices, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation and repetitive motions. Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients and instrument sets. Manual and finger dexterity. Hand and eye coordination. Sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time. Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. Working irregular hours. Ability to handle multiple priorities and requests in a changeable environment.
