Responsibilities

The Field Service Supervisor will be assigned a team of specimen processors at strategic facilities within the Northwestern Medicine hospital system. Within this work unit, the incumbent will be required to perform the tasks within that work unit as well as serve as a supervisor to that work unit. As a supervisor, the incumbent will provide work direction, education, orientation, and operational problem solving within the work unit on a day-to-day basis. They will work with the Field Service Managers in identifying and initiating improvements in workflow or other unit matters to facilitate smooth daily operations and to assure patient and client satisfaction. A wide range of technical knowledge will be used to respond to questions and issues from customers, staff or patients. The Field Service Supervisor must be flexible to respond to changing priorities and workflow. The incumbent has major responsibility to ensure proper functioning in the area assigned, but also must have general knowledge of other areas. The incumbent is responsible for the quality of results and resolution of all problems within the work unit. The incumbent will utilize exemplary leadership, interpersonal, and management skills. Responsibilities include: (i) personnel management, to include recruiting, training, evaluating, and coaching; (ii) evaluation, implementation, and coordination of new and existing systems and procedures to include SOP development and regulatory compliance; (iii) Quality Assurance monitoring and troubleshooting; (iv) identification, analysis, and reporting of appropriate quality indicators and metrics; (v) management of work flow, team building, and project assignments within and across work units; (vi) coordinate and/or integrate services with other Operational areas as appropriate to maximize quality and efficiency of service to meet or exceed client and patient expectations; and (vii) oversee and manage the interactions between work unit staff and other internal or external persons. Project management skills as well as proficient written and verbal skills are essential. Travel, presentations, and face-to-face client interaction are required. Responsible for the management and development of staff. Provides oversight to, and is accountable for quality and service, regulatory compliance, work unit safety, strategic planning, document management, and developing and implementing new services as needed. Works cooperatively with a wide variety of customers, as well as internal and external resources. Completes special projects as assigned by the Field Service Managers.

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree and three years of experience in the Mayo Collaborative Services Regional Service Representative or Client Site Specimen Processor role or six years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital setting.

Additional Qualifications

  • This role requires the employee to work on-site between two Chicagoland hospitals.

  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required, along with the ability to travel on all forms of major public transportation. Up to 30% travel is required.

  • Master’s degree, leadership experience, and/or accreditation by a national agency (MT, CLS, MLS, MB, CG, MP or HTL) preferred.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership, communication (oral and written) and problem-solving ability.

  • Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently.

  • Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • High level of technical competence and confidence.

  • Must be adaptable, flexible, creative, dependable, responsible and able to perform well within multifunctional environments.

  • Customer focused.

  • Ability to manage several projects or tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when prioritizing projects.

  • Decision making and problem-solving ability.

  • Adherence to Mayo Clinic and MCL policies and procedures.

  • Ability to function and work in a diverse work environment while providing direction, coaching, and oversight to field service staff.

  • Stay abreast of regulatory, safety and reimbursement issues.

$86,673.60 - $130,104.00 per year; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
