Assistant Director of Nursing
Starting Pay Rate : $93,000 (Pay information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position).
The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing in the overall operation and administration of nursing practice and service. The Assistant Director of Nursing provides resident focused leadership to the department resulting in positive outcomes. The Assistant Director of Nursing assumes Director of Nursing service responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for implementation, tracking, education and management of ECH Infection Control Prevention.
Assist the DON with organization and supervision of department.
On call rotation with DON
Unit management coverage as necessary in absence of nurse manager.
Act as a clinical and leadership resource for nursing staff.
Serve as member of the management team.
Complete performance appraisals for nursing staff.
Assist DON oversight and approval of staff performance evaluations.
Assist DON with preparation of annual operating and capital budgets and monthly budget monitoring.
Assist DON in establishing annual departmental objectives.
Encourage resolution of problems/issues at the lowest level of supervision.
Report concerns and recommendations of nursing staff to the DON in a timely manner through daily rounds.
Serve on committees and quality improvement teams as designated.
Assist in the development and review of departmental policies and procedures.
Assist in the review and revision of department’s job descriptions.
Represent the Home in professional organizations.
Monitor and participate in the resident care plan process and the quality of delivered care and make recommendations which result in positive outcomes.
Assist the DON in providing quality resident centered care.
Develop/revise staffing patterns that creatively utilize available staff to meet resident needs.
Monitor staffing schedules.
Be responsible for the hiring and supervision of per diem nursing staff.
Interview applicants and make recommendations for hire.
Assist in the orientation, evaluation and ongoing support of per diem staff.
Monitor per diem staff’s compliance with departmental and facility standards.
Communicate problems that arise to the pharmacy contractor to address and resolve them in a timely manner.
Assist DON in disposal of discontinued and expired controlled substances per State regulatory requirements.
Monitor pharmaceutical reports related to drug usage and medication errors.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, management or related field with a minimum of five years of supervisory or management experience in health care.
Current registered nurse licensure in New York State.
Infection Prevention Certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
Clinical expertise in nursing practice and long term care.
Knowledgeable in minimum data sets (MDS 3.0) and regulatory standards of practice.
Proven skills in professional and community leadership.
Effective verbal and written communications skills.

Performing duties of this job requires occasional sitting, walking and standing in and around the building. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. The majority of essential job duties are performed indoors, in a normal office/nursing floor unit environment.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: The work is performed within established guidelines, and requires staff supervision in all areas of the nursing department. The employee exercises initiative and independent judgment to effectively perform the essential job duties of this position.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS:The employee has direct responsibility for the entire nursing department and the coordination of all quality resident care services.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Shall be fully acquainted with all safety policies and procedures of the Church Home. Takes an active role in all fire drills during the shift and/or emergencies for internal and external disasters as monitored by supervisor and incident manager. Must comply with facility in-service requirements.
Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the organization, residents, participants, family and staff, that may be encountered, either formally or informally, during the normal course of business. This includes medical and treatment records, financial and human resources information.
