Job Description Summary

The Theatre and Dance Department of Nazareth University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin August 2024. The department seeks candidates committed to teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs.

Responsibilities encompass teaching courses related to Scenic Design, as well as other areas of technical theatre and Introduction to Theatre. This position is also responsible for designing departmental productions including the construction and sourcing of props and the painting of scenery, as well as mentoring student designers and artisans, and collaborating with guest designers and faculty artists. Furthermore, this role involves active participation in departmental and university-level committees, as well as in recruitment efforts and other assigned departmental tasks. As a tenure-track position, the successful applicant is expected to demonstrate commitment to the profession through an ongoing and sustained professional theatrical practice.

Any faculty hired at the rank of Associate Professor could be considered for service as Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. Applicants should indicate any administrative interests and experience. If applicable, the candidate will have a broad and inclusive understanding of performance and design, particularly competencies in dance, theater, and musical theatre. As the role of Chair requires oversight of and engagement with both the academic curriculum and a vibrant and extensive co-curriculum of performances and productions, please articulate any budgeting, resource management and faculty mentorship experience.

Required Education

MFA in Theatrical Design

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Experience working with, recruiting, and teaching undergraduates.

-Professional design experience.

-Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Membership in USA 829. Extensive professional experience.
