The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:

Library Professional II is the career rank for most library professionals. There are three criteria that distinguishes a Library Professional II: Mastery of primary job responsibilities: Performs at a high level with minimal supervision (e.g., exercises independent judgment and self-direction); Evidence of affinity for and dedication to the profession (e.g., self-motivated commitment to continuing education and keeping current in the field, evidence of scholarly, pedagogical, or creative agendas; plans or prospects for publication, etc.), and Evidence of service to the library, university or community (e.g., participation in library or university programs, meetings or committees.) Manages all administrative services in a library. They use research and organization skills to improve the efficiency of the library. Librarians also help patrons locate materials and conduct research.Responsibilities GENERAL PURPOSE: The Data Curator Librarian will join an expanding data support team that is implementing policies, workflows, and platforms to ensure University of Rochester researchers are able to meet data sharing requirements and expectations from publishers, funders, and disciplinary best practices. A key member of the Data services team, the data curator will work with researchers to prepare and enhance their data and metadata for deposit within UR's data repository and/or relevant disciplinary repositories. In consultation with other library and campus colleagues, especially the data, reproducibility, and scholarly communication librarians, the curator will develop and revise minimum data and metadata standards for data deposits from all disciplines. They will collaborate on creating data workflows and regularly perform assessment on current practices to identify areas for iterative improvement. RESPONSIBILITIES: Data Curation - Review data submitted for deposit in the University's data repository and/or disciplinary repositories - Communicate with researchers around enhancements necessary to meet minimum standards - Track and manage communication with researchers - Track provenance of changed records Policy and Standards Development - Work with Data Librarian to develop minimum requirements for data being deposited into the University's data repository - Regularly assess and review policies against current disciplinary standards and requirements Data Repository Workflows - Coordinate with the Repositories Lead to design user-centered workflows for data submission and approval processes in the University's data repository - Regularly assess data repository workflows for data to support continuous improvement Knowledge of Disciplinary Standards - Remain current on data standards, practices, and trends - Participate in professional development activities - Collaborate with Data Librarian and other library staff to identify other new and or changing standards or best practices Communicate Standards - Coordinate with Data Librarian to create educational material for standards and best practices - Collaborate with Liaison Librarians to assist researchers with metadata or data documentation questions Miscellaneous Duties - Maintain currency with library functions, resources, practices, and procedures - Participate in and contribute towards River Campus Libraries and University committees, meetings, and events - Maintain professional collaborations with River Campus Libraries and campus constituencies - Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Required: - MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, or other advanced degree, preferably in the fields of science, engineering, or data management - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others across - disciplines/fields, with a team focus - Demonstrated ability to discover and quickly become competent using new technologies, software, and devices; willingness to explore the - use of innovative technologies with a high tolerance for risk, ambiguity, - and failure - Outstanding interpersonal skills and abilities, and comfort working - collaboratively in a team environment - Ability to form strong, collaborative connections and manage projects - Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills - Self-starter who is flexible, creative, and open to new challenges - Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred: - 2+ years of job-related experience working with data, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the University's mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create - and Make the World Ever Better.
