SUMMARY

The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) plays a crucial role in shaping and advancing the college's commitment to excellence in healthcare education. The DCE provides leadership and guidance for clinical, simulation, and skills lab experiences for Nursing and Allied Health programs. This position involves collaborating with faculty, healthcare providers, and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical experiences for students. The DCE is responsible for ensuring that all clinical sites, simulation and skills labs, and student experience activities are in compliance with accreditation requirements, state and federal statutes, and other regulations. This position collaborates with the program directors and clinical agencies to build and strengthen partnerships to enhance clinical education in support of the college's strategic goals.

• Two years of teaching in a college or university preferred
• Active Certified Nurse Educator certification for nursing preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

Operational
• Directs, creates, and implements policies, providing operational oversight of clinical experiences.
• Oversees and monitors all clinical contract documentation to ensure that records are current and compliant with regulatory standards for clinical experiences.
• Responsible for all data collection, reporting, and analysis to evaluate clinical experiences and articulate outcomes in support of the college and student experience.
• Collaborates with campus leadership to build and strengthen partnerships with individuals, divisions, and other groups on campus and college-wide.

Curriculum Development and Enhancement
• Collaborates with faculty to develop, implement, and continuously improve clinical education curricula in alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Stays abreast of advancements in healthcare education and incorporates best practices into clinical programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Hires and trains the clinical, simulation, and nursing skills laboratory coordinator and clinical, simulation, and skills lab faculty in collaboration with the Program Directors.
• Directly manages and supervises staff responsible for clinical/simulations/skills lab, inventory systems, operation of equipment, and use of materials in the Allied Health and Nursing laboratories.
• Provides coaching and engages in professional development efforts of full and part-time faculty and staff.

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
• Ensures programs meet the regulatory requirements as defined by the New York State Office of Professions, New York State Education Department (NYSED), the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and other allied health accreditation agencies.
• Implements and monitors quality assurance processes to ensure that clinical education programs meet or exceed accreditation standards.
• Conduct regular evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
• Develops and promotes structures, programs, policies, and procedures that enhance the student experience.
• Guides, evaluates, and assigns clinical schedules, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, laws, and guidelines.

Clinical/Simulation/Lab
• Oversees and arranges clinical experiences for all nursing/allied health programs including clinical site development and evaluation, clinical scheduling, and clinical oversight to enhance nursing/allied health student experiences in the care of patients.
• Build meaningful partnerships with clinical agencies to ensure that clinical practice sites are available for student learning and application of site experience.
• Researches and determines appropriate agencies that meet the educational requirements for clinical experiences for students.
• Seeks new opportunities while managing relationships with existing partners.
• Conducts written evaluations of clinical placements to assess the agencies' ability to meet educational and program requirements that foster a supportive and compliant student learning environment.
• Ensures that proper documentation has been completed regarding each student's clinical experience.
• Designs and develops the annual clinical orientation for faculty and agencies.
• Leads and implements clinical faculty orientation to support faculty in the development and improvement of learning outcomes and assessment activities.
• Works closely with clinical instructors to ensure they are well-prepared to mentor and assess students during clinical experiences.
• Provides updates regarding clinical site availability for both students and faculty.
• Provides communication and supports clinical faculty on issues that impact teaching, learning, and technology.
• Oversees the placement of faculty in clinical agency sites in conjunction with campus leadership and consistent with curriculum requirements and faculty areas of expertise/credential

Evaluation
• Participates in the development and implementation of ongoing and routine program assessment and on-site evaluation of clinical faculty to understand the program's strengths and weaknesses and to establish a model of evidence-based program improvement.
• Engages in student satisfaction and retention activities to ensure the program maintains a high level of quality.
• Conducts follow-up evaluations of students placed in facilities six months post-graduation from the program through targeted communication plans.

Other
• Participates in Advisory Board meetings as requested.
• Participate in faculty and curriculum team meetings.
• Participate with faculty in the development of course objectives, evaluation of total curriculum, and revision of program policies.

• Travel to all COHC lab sites as often as required, weekly and/or daily
• Undertake additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
• Performs other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Nursing or healthcare related field

Required Licensure/Certification:
• Active NYS Registered Nurse license.
• Current healthcare provider BLS CPR certification.
• Certified Nurse Educator certification from National League for Nursing within two years of hire date, if not already obtained upon hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
