Energy Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Monitor, analyze and interpret energy data. Conduct energy audits and walk-throughs to evaluate energy use, costs, and identify energy conservation measures with respect to REDs buildings, utilities generation and utilities distribution systems. Conduct jobsite observations, field inspections, or sub-metering to collect data for energy conservation analyses. Identify energy savings opportunities and make recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operation. Perform energy modeling, measurement, verification, commissioning, or retro-commissioning. Oversee design or construction aspects related to energy such as energy engineering, energy management, and sustainable design. Prepare project reports and other program or technical documentation. Identify and establish working relationships with outside engineering, construction and procurement firms (with focus on energy conservation and utility generation resources) Partners with RED, Ironclad and SDCL/SEEIT personnel on varying levels as necessary to investigate, analyze and implement improvement projects. Works independently on assignments with guidance from senior team members and managers. Identifies and utilizes simulation software and spreadsheets to accurately represent pre and post energy project performance. Customizes software and spreadsheets to achieve desired technical analyses. Recommends best methods for measurement and verification of systems performance pre and post project execution. Establishes proficiency in analyzing REDs operational data collected by OSIsoft PI-Vision data historian. Periodically attends educational seminars and conferences and maintains current knowledge of latest technology offerings as related to REDs utility systems. Assists with preparation of RFPs for project bids and equipment procurement. Provides engineering design support as appropriate to develop and execute projects. Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Energy Engineering Functional knowledge, engineering experience or a strong desire to learn about steam power generation, gas turbine power generation, boilers, industrial refrigeration, compressed air, pumping, and hydronics systems. 3 to 5 years experience in a related engineering field. Experience or willingness to develop a high level of proficiency with NYSERDA and RG&E energy rebate programs.

Preferred Certifications/Licenses: Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification obtained through the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), preferred but not required. Active New York State PE License or working to achieve licensure, preferred by not required.

Skills/Competencies: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including advanced aptitude with use of Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets. Experience with OSIsoft PI-Vision data historian (or similar software) preferred. Good communications skills, both verbal and written Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, customers, and operational level personnel. Desire for hands-on project development and customer contact Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be a results-driven, self-starter with the desire to bring creative solutions to a dynamic operating environment. Dedication to highest levels of utility service reliability and customer service Able to adjust easily to rapid change, possess a strong sense of urgency and is able to work well under pressure.
